Lernziele

After successful completion of the module, the student is able to develop and apply coding and modulation techniques relevant to current and upcoming wireless communication standards. Furthermore, he or she is able to understand the connection to information theory and can reason about performances of optimal and practical systems. In particular, the student is able to compute and interpret achievable rates and facilitate these quantities in the design of coded communication systems.

Beschreibung

Background: Overview over architecture of digital transceivers; 1. channel coding using low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes and polar codes; 2. computing the capacity and the normal approximation; 3. combining symbol mapping, channel coding, and demodulation focusing on bit-interleaved coded modulation (BICM) and multi-level coding; 4. computing achievable rates for unknown channels or channels with no closed-form capacity formula using generalized mutual information (GMI); 5. employing channel estimation, equalization, and detection in coded systems; basics of probabilistic shaping to improve spectral efficiency
