6G in Hospitals - The 6G Medical Testbed

The 6G Medical Testbed provides a platform to research and test emerging medical applications using 6G in a real hospital setting. Developed and maintained together with our project partners from MITI , the testbed is located at the TUM hospital Klinikum rechts der Isar.
Currently, the following medical use cases are implemented:
- Semiautonomous Telerobotic Examination Suite for remote patient diagnosis.
- Context-Aware Patient Monitoring for adaptive monitoring of the status of the patient.
- More use cases such as an exosceleton arm, etc. are planned to be added!
The medical applications are connected with a 6G research communication network, supporting various wired and wireless access technologies and concepts. The applications are hereby splitted into different Modular Application Functions (MAFs), which allow to adapt them according to the status of the network.
Our main research topics in the scope of 6G communication networks include:
- Optimal Placement of medical MAFs and their interaction with the network.
- In-Network Computing.
- Reliable communication for mission-critical medical use cases.
- Improved connectivity combining various wireless access technologies such as OpenRAN, WiFI, LiFi etc.
