Giving Your Talk

You give your talk after having finished the writing of your thesis. Talks are given during the Diplom / Master student seminar that is being held about every other week. Please ask your advisor for the exact dates. Test your laptop and the projecter a few days before your talk and arrive at least 15 minutes before your scheduled time slot.

Duration of talks:

  • Master's Thesis / Diplomarbeit: 30 minutes
  • Bachelor's Thesis / Studienarbeit: 20 minutes
  • IDP: 20 minutes
  • Research Internship / Forschungspraxis: 20 minutes

Make sure you stay in that time slot by practising your talk at home or with your advisor. In addition, 10-15 minutes will be reserved for discussion and questions after your talk.

For Master's Thesis / Diplomarbeiten, an intermediate presentation of 20 minutes should be given after about 3 months. This presentation should include a schedule for the time left.

Your presentation slides should be labeled accordingly (e.g. "Master's Thesis Final Presentation"), especially when using the institute's and university's logos. You may use our templates for slides.

At the end of your presentation, you should initiate the discussion with terms like "...and I'll be glad to answer any questions you might have". Stay clear of formulations like "...OK, thats the end. Any questions?".
