  • Joint Research Incubator Award 2022 at the SVCP2022 (2022)
    The paper „Evaluation of Video Coding for Machines without Ground Truth“ co-authored by Kristian Fischer, Markus Hofbauer, Christopher Kuhn, Eckehard Steinbach, and Andre Kaup, has received the Joint Research Incubator Award 2022 at the 7th ITG/VDE Graduate Summer School on Video Compression and Processing (SVCP2022).
  • Tactile Internet Technical Contribution Award goes to LMT (2020)
    Prof. Steinbach receives the Technical Contribution Award of the IEEE Tactile Internet Technical Committee (IEEE ComSoc) for “distinguished contributions to the Haptic Codecs, which is an essential part of the Tactile Internet and his active contribution to and chairing the IEEE P1918.1.1 group on Haptics Codecs.”

    Prof. Steinbach received the Supervisory Award 2019 from the Faculty Graduate Center Electrical and Computer Engineering (Fakultätsgraduiertenzentrum Elektro- und Informationstechnik) for the exemplary supervision of his PhD candidates. The price has been handed over at the yearly Tag der Fakultät of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering on Nov. 8, 2019

  • The Nokia Bell Labs Student Award 2018 goes to Tamay Aykut (2018)
    At the Nokia Innovation Days 2018 in Stuttgart, Tamay Aykut, PhD student at the Department of Media Technology of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, was awarded the Nokia Bell Labs Student Award 2018. He received the award for his research work on "Towards Virtual Human Teleportation: Realtime 3D 360 ° Telepresence". The award was presented by Peter Merz, Head of Standardization Research, and Ulrich Barth, Head of Smart Wireless Networks at Nokia Bell Labs. Congratulations to the winner Tamay Aykut!

  • ERC Starting Grant for Eckehard Steinbach (2010)
    The European Research Council has awarded an ERC Starting Grant to Prof. Steinbach for his project proposal PROHAPTICS which deals with haptic signal processing and communication in telepresence and telemanipulation systems. The ERC grant starts on January 1st, 2011, and comes with a funding of 1.5 million euros for a project duration of 5 years. (press release TUM)

    Hu Chen has received the Chorafas Award 2010 at the yearly "Tag der Fakultät" of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology for his outstanding research on "Low Complexity Bayer-Pattern Multiview Video Coding" which he performed at LMT as part of his PhD work.
  • Kurt Fischer Diploma Award for Robert Huitl (2010)
    Robert Huitl has received the Kurt Fischer Diploma Award 2010 at the yearly "Tag der Fakultät" of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology for his outstanding diploma thesis "Fast Image Retrieval for Mobile Location Recognition" which he prepared at LMT. During his diploma thesis he was supervised by Georg Schroth.
  • Humboldt Research Award for Prof. Chang Wen Chen (2010)
    Prof. Chang Wen Chen from New York State University at Buffalo is the recipient of a Humboldt Research Award. This prestigious award has been granted to Prof. Chen in recognition of his past accomplishments in research and teaching. As part of the award, Prof. Chen will spend a total of 6-12 months over the next years at the Chair of Media Technology at TU Muenchen.
