Students from the Open Hardware Initiative (Link), a TUM student organization, won the 2025 AMD Open Hardware Competition in the student category, coached by TUM EDA (Johannes Geier).
Details:
The project, “AI Compilers Meet FPGAs: A HW/SW Codesign Approach for Vision Transformers,” showcased the following:
- State-of-the-art compilation: Using MLIR through the IREE stack
- Advanced simulation and models for drones: Leveraging ViTfly and Flightmare for a drone-based task
- Cutting-edge research on AI accelerators: Adopting the Integer Transformer Accelerator (ITA) from the PULP platform and porting it to an AMD FPGA
