6G life Workshop on Molecular Communications

On July 20th - 21th, 2023, the 6G life Workshop on Molecular Communications took place in Munich.

Organizers

Christian Deppe (TUM-LNT), Holger Boche (TUM-LTI)

Local Organisation

Kiran Adhikari (TUM-LNT), Elizabeth Soeder (TUM-LTI), Evagoras Stylianou (TUM-LNT), Verena Widhopf (TUM-LTI),

Topics of Interest

During the workshop the participants discussed the possibilities of molecular communication.

The participants were from the 6G-life projects 1.3, 1.7 and 1.8, the 6G-RIC project, and other international researchers.

Molecular communication is a new paradigm in communication technology in which information is transmitted via signal molecules. In the last decade, synthetic molecular communication has been extensively studied in the literature from various aspects, including channel modelling, modulation and detection design, biological building blocks for transceiver design, and information-theoretic performance characterisation. In addition, several proof-of-concept implementations of synthetic molecular communication systems have been considered. Despite recent theoretical and technological advances in the field of molecular communications, the fundamental channel capacity limits of most systems are still unknown. There is a vision that molecular communications can be a new physical layer for 6G, accessing and extracting data from extremely low-wave environments.
