Shirin Saeedi Bidokhti is the recipient of the 2023 IEEE Communications Society & Information Theory Society Joint Paper Award. Shirin was a postdoctoral fellow at the TUM Institute for Communications Engineering from 2012-2016. She is currently Assistant Professor at the University of Pennsylvania.

“Age of Information in Random Access Channels,” IEEE Transactions on Information Theory, Vol. 68, No. 10, pp. 6548-6568, October 2022.

The award recognizes outstanding papers that lie at the intersection of communications and information theory. A high-level committee with members from both societies makes the selection. The award consists of a plaque and a cash prize.

At TUM, Shirin’s work focused on network information theory. More recently, she has been publishing on timely topics such as the age of information, COVID-19 tracing and testing, and sequential and deep learning. She received an NSF CAREER award in 2021 and was named the 2022 Goldsmith Lecturer​​​​​​​​​​​​​​ of the IEEE Information Theory Society.
