Abstract:
This thesis investigates probabilistic shaping (PS) with polar and LDPC codes for asymmetric channels and short-reach fiber links. The Honda–Yamamoto scheme for polar codes is analyzed in terms of code design, rate loss, and performance, showing gains over uniform signaling. For LDPC codes, new shaping algorithms are proposed that ensure valid codewords and outperform uniform signaling. PS for peak-power-limited fiber links is experimentally evaluated, and an adaptive bit labeling enables rate adaptivity.
