Shirin Saeedi Bidokhti is the recipient of the 2022 Goldsmith Lecturer Award of the IEEE Information Theory Society. Shirin was a postdoctoral fellow at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) from 2012-2016. She is currently Assistant Professor at the University of Pennsylvania.

The award is given to women researchers at most 10 years from receiving their doctoral degrees. The winners have achieved early career excellence via research and technical contributions to information theory and its applications, and they give a lecture at an Information Theory School.

At TUM, Shirin’s work focused on network information theory. In this area, she derived new capacity results for broadcast and diamond networks, and new rate-distortion bounds for caching and correlated sources. More recently, she has been publishing on timely topics such as the age of information, COVID-19 tracing and testing, and sequential and deep learning. She received an NSF CISE Research Initiative Award in 2018 and an NSF CAREER award in 2021.
