IEEE Israel Best Student Paper Award for Ziv Goldfeld

Ziv Goldfeld will be awarded an IEEE Israel 2014 Best Student Paper Award, the certificate will be presented at the IEEEI convention in Eilat, Israel, on Thursday, December 4, 2014. The paper is entitled "Semi-Deterministic Broadcast Channels with Cooperation”. Ziv has been a regular visitor at the LNT over the past 2 years and is supervised by Professor Haim Permuter of Ben-Gurion University of the Negev.

Walter Gademann Master's Thesis Award for Rana Ali Amjad

Rana Ali Amjad will be awarded the Walter Gademann Preis of the Fakultät für Elektrotechnik und Informationstechnik for his outstanding Master's thesis. Gerhard Kramer has been listed by Thomson Reuters as one of “The World’s Most Influential Scientific Minds” for 2014, and one of the 120 most influential researchers in Computer Science. Prof. Dr. Ralf Kötter Gedächtnispreis für Tobias Fehenberger

Tobias Fehenberger, wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter am Lehrstuhl für Nachrichtentechnik, erhält für seine herausragende Diplomarbeit mit dem Titel "Investigations into the nonlinear capacity limits of fiber-optical communication systems" den Prof. Dr. Ralf Kötter Gedächtnispreis. Der mit 500 Euro dotierte Preis ist nach dem 2009 verstorbenen TUM-Ordinarius für Nachrichtentechnik Ralf Kötter benannt.

EURASIP Best Paper Award for Gerhard Kramer

Prof. Gerhard Kramer was awarded the 2014 EURASIP Best Paper Award for the EURASIP Journal on Wireless Communications and Networking. The publication, entitled “Compound Wiretap Channels”, is a joint work of Yingbin Liang, Gerhard Kramer, H. Vincent Poor, and Shlomo Shamai and was published in EURASIP Journal on Wireless Communications and Networking, Volume 2009, Article ID 142374.

Teaching Award for Joschi Brauchle

Die Fachschaft Elektrotechnik und Informationstechnik vergibt jedes Jahr einen Preis an Dozenten der Fakultät für Elektrotechnik und Informationstechnik, die auf dem Gebiet der Lehre mehr leisten, als für einen guten Lehrbetrieb nötig wäre.  Joschi Brauchle wurde am Tag der Fakultät am 25.10.2013 für die Betreuung der Übung des Fachs "Channel Coding" ausgezeichnet.

IEEE Jack Keil Wolf ISIT Student Paper Award for Mansoor Yousefi

At IEEE International Symposium on Information Theory (ISIT 2013) in Istanbul, Mansoor Isvand Yousefi was selected to receive a 2013 IEEE Jack Keil Wolf ISIT Student Paper Award for his paper on "Integrable Communication Channels and the Nonlinear Fourier Transform" (Co-author Frank R. Kschischang). (The other award winner was Mohammad Yassaee from Sharif University.)

Thomas Edison Patent Award for Gerhard Kramer

Gerhard Kramer and former Bell Labs colleague Carl Nuzman will receive a 2012 Thomas Edison patent award from the Research & Development Council of New Jersey for the patent  “Simultaneous Estimation of Multiple Channel Coefficients Using a Common Probing Sequence” (U.S. Patent 8,218,419) The invention is a pilot-based training scheme that significantly expedites cross-talk estimation for vectored DSL systems using joint estimation over groups of tones.
